SENIOR LEADERS ARE SAYING
"The health of our all-volunteer force, our Soldier-volunteers, our
Family-volunteers, depends on the health of the Family. The readiness of our
all-volunteer force depends on the health of the Families. I can assure you
that your Army leadership understands the important contribution each and
every one of you makes. We need to make sure we step up and provide the
support Families need so the Army Family stays healthy and ready." -
Secretary of the Army Pete Geren said during the signing of the Army Family
Covenant at Fort Knox, Ky., Oct. 17.
TODAY'S FOCUS
Emergency Preparedness Liaison Officers
Who are they? Emergency Preparedness Liaison Officers (EPLOs) are reservists
from the military services who advise on the provision of their service's
resources in an all-hazards environment. They help maintain effective
communication between the military components, the Department of Defense and
other federal, state and local agencies. They work closely with the 10 U.S.
Army North Defense Coordinating Officers, who serve as the single point of
contact within their regions to plan for and provide defense support to
civil authorities during a declared disaster.
What has the Army done? The Army has EPLOs in each state and Federal
Emergency Management Agency region in the United States. The Army is
committed to supporting our nation's disaster planning and response efforts
by providing the appropriate training for reservists who serve as EPLOs.
What efforts does the Army plan to continue in the future? Army North's
Defense Coordinating Officers will continue to leverage the service
expertise of DOD EPLOs to provide seamless support to federal and state
partners in disaster planning and response.
Why is this important to the Army? The Army is committed to its mission of
protecting the American public and our way of life while remaining prepared
to save lives and alleviate suffering in the event of natural or manmade
disaster.
