SENIOR LEADERS ARE SAYING

"I am extremely proud of Army Materiel Command's (AMC's) efforts to provide
Warfighters with equipment much faster, in better quality, and at a lower
cost. This three-fold increase in awards also recognizes the men and women
in our outstanding work force who are directly responsible for these
improvements. These awards are an affirmation of the best business practices
we have integrated into the Army's industrial base." - Gen. Benjamin S.
Griffin, Commanding General, U.S. Army Materiel Command

TODAY'S FOCUS

Army Excellence in Business Transformation - Army Materiel Command Takes 12
Shingo Prize Awards for 2007

What is it? Established in 1988, the Shingo Prize Public Sector Award for
Excellence in Manufacturing and Achievement is administered by Utah State
University and has been called by Business Week "the Nobel Prize for
Manufacturing."

What has the Army done? The Army has once again received the Shingo Prize in
2007. Twelve Shingo Prize Awards - triple that of 2006 - recognize
manufacturing excellence by the U.S. Army Materiel Command (AMC). In
addition to these awards, Gen. Benjamin S. Griffin will be inducted into the
Shingo Academy Hall of Fame.

What does this mean for the Army? This achievement exemplifies the AMC's
commitment to readying the Army for the challenges of the 21st century. A
more efficient, cost-effective, and productive Army will have more of an
impact and will help Warfighters everywhere maintain Army readiness.

Moreover, all of these achievements are clearly an indication the Army is
not merely living up to its own standards of change, it is surpassing those
very standards - methodically and responsibly. The Army can be confident it
is readying itself for the challenges Soldiers will face in the 21st
century. Business transformation is more than ever a critical element of how
the Army will sustain, prepare, reset and transform to meet the challenges
of today and tomorrow.
