TODAY'S FOCUS

Sustaining the Force

What is it? Our success in future campaigns relies on a a joint-capable
logistics community that maintains domain-wide visibility over requirements,
resources, and priorities; that anticipates and delivers capability with
speed and precision to meet operational needs of the joint force commander;
and that acts with unity of effort to plan and execute logistics across the
joint operations area.

What has the Army done? Critical to the success of our Army Logistics Vision
<http://www.hqda.army.mil/logweb/Army_Logistics_Vision.pdf> is the
transformation of our Combat Service Support organizations to ones that are
flexible, tailorable, and scalable. The Army has developed a new
Joint-capable Concept of Support
<http://www.hqda.army.mil/logweb/concept_of_support.html> that will sustain
our expeditionary and campaign-quality Army across the full spectrum of
operations. It enables support to a non-linear, asymmetric, and
non-contiguous battlefield. The Army has made huge strides in equipping and
training our Soldiers so that every Solider can survive and support.
Finally, we are fully prepared to operate seamlessly in a joint,
interagency, and multinational environment. Not yet complete, but certainly
under way, we continue to transform our logistics business by blueprinting
our future processes to commercial best practices as part of the Single Army
Logistics Enterprise.
<http://www.hqda.army.mil/logweb/integrated_logistics_environment.pdf> We
are fielding logistics information technology and connectivity solutions,
<http://www.hqda.army.mil/logweb/cl_whitepaper_update.pdf> aligned with the
Army's Integrated Logistics Architecture, that will give us end-to-end
visibility, accountability, and capability to better anticipate operational
needs.

What efforts does the Army plan to continue in the future? The Army will
implement several critical initiatives in the next years, all focused on
maintaining 360° view of logistics readiness.
<http://www.hqda.army.mil/logweb/Logistics_Readiness.pdf> Critical to
equipping our modular Army is our ability to know what we have, know where
it is, and know what condition it's in. Modernizing our logistics automation
systems will give us the tools to manage equipment through the entire
Army--active and reserve components. The Army will continue to execute a
logistics enterprise solution that connects our logisticians to further
improve visibility over requirements, resources and
<http://www.hqda.army.mil/logweb/Improve_Visibility.pdf> priorities. We will
enhance the readiness of the Operational Force through anticipating and
delivering capability to meet operational
<http://www.hqda.army.mil/logweb/logistics_initiatives.pdf> needs. To better
support a modular force, we will develop and implement an aggressive
Logistics Automation Governance Plan
<http://www.hqda.army.mil/logweb/Logistics_Automated_Governance_Plan.pdf>
that enhances logistics warfighting and business operations architecture and
that retires outdated legacy systems. The Army will program and equip a
balanced Combat Service Support (CSS) force structure to execute our
streamlined, modular concept of support. We will synchronize Army Modular
Force stationing decisions with Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) results
and global stationing requirements. Our new tactical wheeled vehicle
strategy will modernize our fleets and reduce operating costs. The Army will
continue to develop a professional logistics work force trained to
anticipate and deliver logistics readiness for current and future
operations.
