</p><h2>TODAY'S FOCUS</h2><p><b>Child, Youth & School (CYS) Services</b><br>
<br>
<b>What is it? </b><br>
<br>
The Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation Command is engaging military and education leaders at every level in a collaborative effort to improve the educational experience of our military students. An Army school services strategy is being developed to ensure that Army children and youth are not academically disadvantaged by frequent moves and deployments. This strategy will be delivered using a three-pronged approach that will include school support, transition support, and liaison/advocacy support. Active- and reserve-components students, families, and school personnel will receive these defined services designed to address current and future issues and trends. <br>
<br>
<b>What has the Army done? </b><br>
<br>
Army Child & Youth Services was recently renamed to include the word school because of the targeted focus at every level to advance school support services for students, Families, and school personnel. Army Child, Youth & School Services (CYS Services) will build upon the successes of the Military Child Care program and develop standards, metrics and accountability measures to help ensure a positive educational outcome for our students. The recent enactment of the Interstate Compact on the Educational Opportunities for military students is a pivotal event in state/national level support for military students and an opportunity that we must leverage to its fullest extent. It will play heavily in the Army school services strategy. The active participation of garrison commanders in local school boards is paramount in ensuring that the needs of military students are being addressed.<br>

<b>Why is it important to the Army? </b><br>
<br>
Leaders at all levels recognize the fact that Army CYS Services reduce the conflict between mission requirements and parental responsibilities. The Soldier and family action plan, LOO 2.4, ensure excellence in schools, youth services and child care demonstrates the commitment of the Army Family Covenant to school support services and recognizes its impact on Soldier readiness and retention. <br>

<b>What continued efforts does the Army have planned for the future?</b><br>
<br>
CYS Services is committed to helping leaders build a partnership with Army families that enhances their strength and resilience. The new focus on school services is critical in addressing the impacts on our military-connected students caused by the stresses of deployment, troop movements, and school performance. This takes a top priority as the Army transforms to an expeditionary Force during this time of persistent conflict. <br>
