TODAY'S FOCUS

Joint Knowledge Development and Distribution Capability

What
is it? The Joint Knowledge Development and Distribution Capability (JKDDC)
is the individual Joint training pillar of the DOD Training Transformation (T2)
initiative; it complements the T2 collective training initiative known as the
Joint National Training Capability (JNTC). It provides relevant, timely, and
global access to Joint knowledge, across the Joint learning continuum. The JKDDC
leverages existing service training programs and adds Joint context to
individual training. JKDDC interaction will span a service members’ career and
prepare them to support combatant commanders. Active and Reserve service members
will share, collaborate, and learn in a realistic Joint context with other
Services and Joint battle staffs. The advantage of incorporating Joint context
throughout ones’ training is the intuitive infusion of Joint knowledge
capabilities by leaders where and when needed on the battlefields of today and
into the future.

What has the Army done?

• The Army
developed a pilot program, including a Warrior digital dashboard that has a
person (a “coach”) who guides an individual Soldier in his knowledge
development. The Army has partnered with the U.S. Joint Forces Command (USJFCOM)
JKDDC Joint Management Office (JMO) to establish mutually supporting efforts.
The pilot effort is the Joint Fires Knowledge Network; access is available on
Joint Knowledge Online (JKO) hosted by AKO/DKO.
• The Army established a
JKDDC Work Group (WG); published a WG charter; detailed tasks for the WG Process
Action Teams that interface with the JFCOM JKDDC JMO PATs.

What
efforts does the Army plan to continue in the future? The Army JKDDC
supports TRADOC’s Campaign Plan by leveraging the emerging Centers of Excellence
(CoE) and Proponent Training Institutions that already develop training that
complements a Soldier’s operational experience. JKDDC will build on existing
training and education to deliver Joint knowledge that integrates Joint context
into service training venues to support life-long Joint learning. This
capitalizes on the capabilities and expertise of the Services, and enables an
accredited JKDDC process to ensure the training is timely, relevant, and
synchronized within the Services. To continue reading this topic in its
